Introduce yourself in a few words

Hi, my name is Daryl Nemecek, I'm 38 and was born and raised in Southern California.

Can you tell us about your background and how you became a pilot?

After college I worked a bunch of different jobs in various fields, everything from driving ambulances to bartending in Vegas, and even delivering for Fedex in the Pacific Northwest. But flying was something that had always been an interest of mine, so my fiance and I moved back home and I began flight training.

What are the main responsibilities of an aircraft pilot?

Ensuring the safe operation of the aircraft while adhering to all regulations. Also, making sure that the passengers have a great experience!

What skills are essential for success as a pilot?

I would have to say preparation and adaptability.

What type of aircraft have you flown?

Cessna 172s, Piper Warrior and Seminole, Beech 99, Cirrus Vision Jet, and the Phenom 100/300.

What does a typical working day look like for you?

It usually starts the day before the trip going over weather, flight and fuel planning. Then once arriving at the plane, it's setting everything up and going over the plan for the day with my crew mate to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Why did you choose a private jet company?

Shiny jet go fast lol. But seriously, I love being part of a great team that offers personalized service. It also doesn’t hurt that we get to fly to all these scenic destinations!

What's your favorite part of being a pilot?

That feeling when all the working parts come together to create an almost effortless flight, and taking it all in while in the flight levels, reminds me of how awesome the job is.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a pilot?

Study! But almost as important as that, is being determined and not giving up.

What do you like about working at Sofar?

I would have to say the culture, everyone I have met here has always been pleasant and willing to help out however they can.

What's your dream destination?

Tapas sound good right now, so maybe Barcelona or Madrid for the next overnight.
